The Gallery is located on the ground floor of the Historical Hale-Wilkinson-Carter Home, 405 N. Main St., Hillsville, Virginia.
A local volunteer-powered cooperative art gallery was first envisioned in 2021 under the tenure of Jae Furman who started the Carroll County Creative Arts Center. Today, The Gallery, and the Carroll County Creative Arts are currently under the expert direction of Executive Director and renowned artist, Donna Char who is bringing to life the vision of supporting the many facets of our remarkable local artisans.
In its first year 2022, The Gallery exhibited local art from 10 artists. During year one, paintings and woodwork filled the front two rooms, which had been a pharmacy and bank in their earlier years. The exhibiting artists offered art classes to the community, which remains a vital part of The Gallery offerings.
In year two 2023, more local artists came to exhibit adding mixed media, ceramics, acrylic, oil and watercolor paintings. In year three, 2024, we have grown to over 22 local artists who exhibited their fine art at various times during the exhibition season, and a number of them have offered classes.
Today, we host a spectacular variety of local artwork, from acrylic, oil and mixed media, woodwork, fiber art, ceramics, stoneware, glass work, photography, mobiles, drawings, and more.
As we grow, we have expanded into the first-floor hallways of the intriguing HWC Home, added classroom space and are envisioning more creative features to come.
The Gallery Exhibition season generally runs from May – October, however, please check our Events Calendar as we often open in April and may stay open November – December for special events.
